Power Restored After Transpower Outage in Wakatipu Area
16 March 2010
Transpower has advised that power was restored to the Wakatipu area at 9:50am today after an outage this morning, Tuesday 16 March.
DELTA Network Services Manager Lindsay McLennan said supply was lost to electricity consumers in the Wakatipu area including Queenstown, Frankton, Arrowtown, Glenorchy and Gibbston Valley.
“The loss of supply affected around 11,500 consumers in the Wakatipu area from 8:39am until supply was restored at 9.49am."
The outage occurred because of a failure of supply from the 110,000 volt lines owned by Transpower between Cromwell and the Wakatipu supply point at Frankton."
DELTA staff assisted Transpower in the restoration of the supply once Transpower had determined that the circuits were safe to restore."
We regret the disruption to our customers’ electricity supply for reasons beyond our control, particularly during the busy morning period."
There were no faults on any part of the Aurora Energy distribution network,” he said.
Transpower is investigating the cause of the fault and Aurora Energy has requested Transpower to report back on the circumstances that led to the outage.
“We will be monitoring the situation on behalf of our customers and seeking reassurance that all reasonable steps are being taken to avoid the situation recurring,” said Mr McLennan.
DELTA operates the local electricity distribution network in the Wakatipu area owned by Aurora Energy.
